December 21, 2009

For the January/February issue of ESPN RISE, I shot Evan Craig of Abington Heights High School in Clarks Summit, Pennslyvania. Craig was undefeated last year and is currently the PIAAA Heavyweight Champion.  He has won 2 cadet Greco-Roman National Championships and is currently ranked #2 heavyweight wrestler by Win Magazine.  To view and purchase images from the shoot, click here.

Converse Open Gym

December 8, 2009

Converse sponsors the Open Gym event where inner-city kids get together to play basketball in local gyms across the country.  They play all day and a few kids are selected to try on the new sneakers.  Someone always wins a pair at the end.  Steve Boyle Photo has been covering the event since the beginning of 2009.  View the images from the Philadelphia event held at Girard College below.

Kyre Irving and Michael Gilchrist

November 23, 2009

For ESPN RISE this month I shot senior Kyrie Irving and junior Michael Gilchrist of St. Patrick High School/Academy in Elizabeth, New Jersey.  Kryie is ranked 6th in the nation for the class of 2010 while  Michael is the #1 recruit in the nation for the class of 2011.  Irving will be playing for Duke University for the 2010 season.  This shoot was set up as an interview with a microphone since both players were essentially interviewing each other for the article.  To view the article and the behind-the-scenes footage of the shoot, click here.  The cover, opening spread, and additional images from the shoot are below.  To view or purchase images click here.

Medical Photography in Pennsylvania

November 11, 2009

My speciality is sports and action, but as mentioned before, the photo editors at American Medical News recognize that my talents can be applied to other things as well.  For this particular assignment, I was hired to shoot a patient and a doctor at Penn State’s Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, in State College, PA for an article on doctor relations with obese patients.  There are many challenges of working in a tight exam room, but I worked with the space I had and am happy with the results.  Other images and  the article can be viewed on the AMN website here.

Syracuse Recruit Dion Waiters

October 20, 2009

For the October Issue of ESPN RISE, Philadelphia Edition, I shot Dion Waiters from Life Center Academy in Burlington, New Jersey.  He is ranked #14 on ESPNU 100.  As mentioned on philly.com, before stepping foot on the basketball court in high school two years back, Dion had already committed to Syracuse Basketball in 2010.  His intense talent has never faltered despite the incredible hardships he has faced throughout his life — loosing three cousins and a best friend, as explained in the ESPN RISE story.  Waiters is a true inspiration.  I like these images from the shoot and the tear sheets are below.  To view or purchase images from the shoot click here.

Fashion Photography for eBay

October 5, 2009

A friend of mine from high school is launching an online vintage fashion store for eBay called Rack Traffic.  The store is set to launch early 2010.  We shoot 100 looks a day about 2 days a month.  My friend took care of casting models for the shoot.

I personally auditioned in a white fur coat from the rack but didn’t make the cut.  Not sure why.

House of Hoops by Foot Locker

August 23, 2009

A week ago I shot the grand opening event of House of Hoops inside the Cherry Hill, New Jersey’s Foot Locker.  House of Hoops is a special section of the store dedicated to basketball at select Foot Lockers across the county.  There were special appearances by Andre Iguodala and Thaddeus Young of the Philadelphia 76ers and radio personality Kathy Romano of the WMMR’s Preston & Steve Morning Show.  A few frames from the event are below.

Primetime Shootout

February 3, 2009

Sometimes I take photographs for personal reasons, but have an underlying intention of making some stock sales.  I headed to Villanova last Friday night to shoot some local high school basketball teams.  Villanova is the best lit gym in the area, so it’s no trouble to walk in there and shoot available light. My reason for going on Friday to the Primetime Shootout was to cover Maalik Wayns in game action(remember him from this previous post) in the Roman Catholic vs Chester game.  Naturally, Maalik was injured and on the bench so I used the evening to play with the new camera and try some new angles.  I was there for maybe an hour before I left to beat the traffic.  Selects are below and a gallery from the games on February 14-15 will be up later this month.
